Here are some tips that I maintain when I am riding my motorcycle in the rain and I hope that will also help you and protect your motorcycle from getting injured.
1. Wear the right gear
It is always necessary to pick the right gear no matter what the season it is. Especially for driving in the rain, always try to select gear that is easily visible to other riders on the road. On a rainy day, it’s hard to see what’s ahead due to the foggy environment. Peek a raincoat or waterproof jacket so that you can stay as dry as possible and must wear Boots, gloves, a helmet, elbow, and knee guard. Select non-slips and maintain a good grip with the motorcycle handlebars. Make sure your helmet visor is clean properly.
2. Tires
Check out the tires and make sure it is in good condition. The tire grip should be in proper shape and not worn out. Driving on a wet road with worn-out tires may have serious consequences especially when you are taking turns and braking. I suggest washing your tires after every ride.
3. Breaks
If you don’t want to risk your life, check the brakes before every ride to see if they are working properly and also check for brake wear. When you apply brakes with wet wheels it takes time to stop your motorcycle so avoid sudden braking and apply brakes from a safe distance. Sometimes oil is seen on the road especially when large vehicles stop. Also, keep an eye on the road paint where your motorcycle can slip easily so be careful or avoid this kind of place when braking. While breaking try to press both brakes together to get better control. Try to keep well lubricated to moving parts of the brakes so that they will not get rusty and have a smooth braking experience.
4. Lights and Switches
Check your motorcycle switches, headlight, tail light, and indicator. Sometimes it happens that lights and switches do not work properly due to rainwater entering the electrical parts. Make sure your bike has no issues like that. I recommend keeping the headlights on whether it is day or night. It helps other drivers on the road to find your presence. Use the low beam so that your lights do not make any difficulties for other drivers to drive.
5. Speed
Do not speed up when you are driving in the rain. Increase the speed of your motorcycle or the rear wheel may slip. Limit your speed between 30-45 kilometers per hour for better control of your motorcycle. It will be convenient to see what is ahead and you can drive safely.
6. Focus on the road
Keep a close eye on the road to spot and avoid broken areas or potholes. Avoid driving on the edge of the road and keep some distance from the road edge. It helps prevent losing control and going off the road. Try to maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. By doing this you can take time to brake if needed. Doing so reduces the risk of unwanted accidents.
Recommendation: I forbid riding in the heavy rain unless necessary because accidents are most likely to occur during rain.
