Find the exact reason why your engine is overheating so that you can easily find out the solution. I am mentioning below some General causes of overheating motorcycle engines-
1. Not maintaining servicing period
Negligence in maintaining motorcycle servicing schedules is the main reason for facing different types of issues. There are a lot of things or errors that we can not find out. Only a professional can understand better. Servicing on time according to the schedule is the best practice.
2. Engine cooler
Engine cooling systems are two types- Air cooling systems and Liquid cooling systems. Check your engine cooler to see if it is working properly. As a liquid cooling system, an air cooling system can not cool the engine quickly and effectively. Bikes that come with Air cooling systems may have higher engine temperatures than bikes that come with Liquid cooling systems. For liquid cooling systems if coolant systems are leaking through the radiator or hoses will cause an overheating engine.
3. Cooling fuel
If cooling fuel does not flow to the engine correctly using a lower-grade cooling fuel will lead the engine to overheat. Always use manufacturer-recommended cooling fuel.
4. Don’t add additional kit
Avoid installing additional kits to the engine or cooling system. It creates a shield and restricts incoming or outgoing air and for that reason, your engine hit will increase.
5. Closed thermostat
The thermostat prevents overheating of the engine. The closed position thermostat restricts coolant from reaching the radiator and the engine leads to overheating.
6. Bad engine oil
Use good quality or recommended engine oil that the manufacturer. Engine oil leads to moving parts smoothly and also reduces friction, wear, and engine temperature. If engine oil is lower than required, the engine will produce excessive heat, and putting lower grade engine oil also leads to overheating the engine.
7. Damage and clogged air filter
A damaged air filter is unable to filter clean air. It passes dirt, debris, or polluted air to the engine. It abates the normal working process of an engine. causes serious issues with inner particles and also increases engine temperature. A clogged air filter impedes maintaining normal airflow to the engine. When sufficient air is not reaching the engine performance drops and generates over-hit.
8. Overloading and overspeeding
Putting extra load on a motorcycle leads to generating more energy to run and the same thing happens when you are overspeeding. Running a bike at high RPM or pushing your motorcycle beyond its limit causes overheating. An overloaded and high-speed motorcycle increases friction, also engine oil is heated resulting overheated engine.
9. Spark plug
A malfunction or wrong spark plug causes a Backfire or misfire, rough idling, and an overheated engine. Also creates problems with the right timing ignition to the engine piston, which can overheat the engine. Using a malfunctioning spark plug for a long time will damage the engine particles.
10. Radiator
A clogged radiator fan and grill are also liable for overheating the engine. When they are clogged with dirt and debris there is resistance to a certain amount of airflow that leads to engine cooling issues.
11. Weather
Last but not the least. Hot weather may increase engine temperature so keep that in mind when you are driving in hot weather and the engine overheats. Give a little break to the engine to drop some hits then ride again.
I would like to recommend maintaining a servicing schedule and taking your motorcycle to a professional mechanic to find errors and fix them. In addition, I want to say don’t forget about the above-mentioned points.
Some of the following tips or symptoms will help you to find out your motorcycle engine scenario.
There are some myths about engines spread everywhere that my motorcycle engine is over-hitting. most probably my engine got damaged. It is very normal for the engine to heat up when the motorcycle is running. If your engine is not getting hot it will not perform well. If there is any problem with the engine it will give you a sign initially and you can take action accordingly. So stop overthinking about the engine-hitting issues and enjoy your ride.
If you still have that question in your mind just think about a few things-
1. After riding for some time, does it exceed the maximum temperature limit?
2. Is there any meter that can measure the engine temperature? If not, how could you say that your motorcycle engine is overheating?
3. Are you facing such kinds of issues as it’s backfiring for overhit or the engine getting off all of a sudden when your motorcycle is running or in a neutral position?
The thing is every biker loves their Motorcycle most. That’s why this type of question arises in their mind. The engine will heat up, that’s the normal process so don’t overthink.
