Every motorcyclist wants a powerful engine on their budget but most of the time we had to negotiate with the price range. Engine modification would be the best option for increasing engine power. According to your motorcycle type and budget, you can upgrade the engine power output. Here are some basic and advanced steps to follow to bring out the maximum output of your motorcycle engine.
1. Increase ignition timing
It may seem that how can ignition increase the engine power? Well, the main duty of the ignition system is to generate a sufficient spark for the engine on time for getting start. Ignition timing is very important for burning the fuel properly to maintain consistency and increase power at high RPM and it can improve low-end torque while obstructing. When the spark can burn the right amount of air and oil molecules the engine generates less heat and you will get a smoother operation than when an uneven spark happens.
2. Upgrade the spark plug and ignition coil
For increased engine responsiveness and combustion efficiency upgrading spark plug and ignition coils is very important. A high-quality spark plug increases motorcycle overall performance like throttle response, acceleration, and engine power because of constant ignite, right time ignition to the combustion chamber, and burn fuels precisely. On the other hand, a quality ignition coil ensures the generating sufficient spark for the combustion process, and engine optimal and smooth performance. A quality ignition coil also prevents more fuel consumption, rough idling, and misfiring. To bring out maximum and smooth performance from your motorcycle engine and also make the engine more durable, updating the spark plug and ignition coil would be a good decision.
3. Upgrade exhaust system
An upgraded exhaust reduces the back pressure that is coming from the engine and improves the sound and throttle response. You can change the entire exhaust system or can only upgrade the slip-on muffler. For maximum output, I suggest changing the entire exhaust. However, a full exhaust system can be costly nevertheless It will maximize your motorcycle horsepower, and air-releasing amount and ensure maximum torque at the high RPM range.
4. Upgrade air filter
To increase the engine breathing capabilities and ensure more air and fuel mixture into the combustion chamber replace the in-built air filter. A good quality aftermarket air filter will increase your engine horsepower and in some cases, it may provide more mileage. Here air filter material plays a crucial role in bringing out the maximum performance of the engine. A reputed brand offers the best quality material so use a good brand air filter to ensure maximum airflow to the engine and find out the right one that is designed for your motorcycle.
5. Upgrade fuel injection system
Motorcycle manufacturers used to use carburetors on older model motorcycles but in modern motorcycles, they use fuel injectors instead of carburetors. Fuel injectors directly inject fuel into the engine without premixing it like a carburetor does. The fuel injector passes just as much fuel to the engine as it needs. Upgrade your fuel injector so that it can precisely use fuel to increase engine power and engine efficiency.
6. Reflash your motorcycle ECU
Modern motorcycle comes with (ECU) engine control unit/ electronic control unit system. It is a software-based controlling and informative system. ECU senses the engine temperature, ignition, air-fuel mixture, fuel injection, and exhaust gas to maintain engine performance and ensure optimal power output from the engine. It also ensures ignition times, prevents your motorcycle engine from consuming more fuel than the engine needs, and helps to deliver the right amount of fuel as per the engine load and requirements. AEM and MOTEC usually provide high-quality ECU systems.
7. Camshaft and compression upgrade
The camshaft works as an air intake of a motorcycle engine it controls the opening and closing engine intake and closing valve. Lobes are pushed against the valves when a camshaft rotates. It allows the intake of air and fuel into the engine and exhaust gas expulsion in a controlled and sufficient manner. A high-quality compression piston combusts a large amount of air-fuel mixture and can generate more power during the power stroke. So we can say in single words that a high-compression piston increases the engine’s thermal efficiency and produces more power. On the other hand, the camshaft optimizes engine breathing capabilities. These modifications require professional installation.
8. Upgrade cooling system
An increased power output system means your motorcycle engine will generate more heat and that affects engine reliability if you are not using high-quality coolant and radiators. Mainly coolant absorbs heat and transfers to the radiators where heat marges with the atmosphere temperature. Update the coolant system that way so that it can reduce the maximum engine heat.
Apart from these a motorcycle engine and other parts that are directly connected to the engine need constant maintenance to prolong its life span, maintain adequate power output, and have a smooth riding experience.
