Every rider loves their motorcycle like a baby and no one wants their motorcycle stolen. Here are some tips to be taken that will help you to prevent your motorcycle from getting stolen.
1. Anti-theft alarm
Install an anti-theft alarm on your motorcycle. An anti-theft alarm device comes with a key so that you can operate the device. Make sure the alarm sounds are loud enough to be heard from quite a distance. You can place the alarming device anywhere on your motorcycle at your convenience but make sure the speakers of the device are not covered. Otherwise, it will not sound loud enough that you can hear properly from quite a distance. After installing the device whenever you get off from your motorcycle press the lock button and your motorcycle is secure now. If anyone tries to move the motorcycle your device will be triggered and start alarming.
2. GPS tracker
A GPS tracker device is mandatory to increase motorcycle security. If someone is trying to move your motorcycle without your permission or your motorcycle gets stolen the tracker will send you a notification. A GPS tracker also provides real-time location and by that, you can remotely monitor the live location for all time and authorities can take action immediately. Many GPS trackers come with geofencing features. Set a specific area and if your motorcycle crosses the area without your permission the tracker will alert you by sending a notification. This is a very useful feature to prevent theft and rescue of a motorcycle within a certain area and speed up the process of rescue.
3. Parking
Always park your motorcycle in a visible or enlightened area. Park your motorcycle near other motorcycles. As other motorcycles are around your motorcycle reduces the chances of your motorcycle being the first target. More motorcycles mean more riders and if more riders are present there is less chance of your motorcycle being stolen. If you are not 100% sure about the safety of the parking area, park your motorcycle in front of your eyes, or if it is not possible to visit your motorcycle every once in a while between work. Park the motorcycle in a safe or select an area that is monitored by CCTV cameras 24/7. Do not park your motorcycle in any blind corner area which is beyond the ken of CCTV cameras.
4. Multiple locking
Use at least two or more extra locks in addition to the motorcycle’s inbuilt lock. This is the best practice for preventing motorcycle theft to use multiple locks. There are multiples of locking categories and I am mentioning some effective lock systems. They are ABS disk brake or front wheel lock- this locking system impedes the wheel of the motorcycle from turning. Ignition lock- Turn your motorcycle off push the key a bit downwards and twist the key in the left direction. Most people don’t understand the concept of ignition lock. It is also called a shoulder or handlebar lock. While the ignition is locked a motorcycle handlebar is not able to move towards the other direction. Chain lock- A chain lock is very effective in preventing motorcycle theft; it does not allow you to rotate the chain of your motorcycle.
5. Killswitch
Last but not least, the kill switch also plays a role in preventing motorcycle theft. It sounds a little strange, though it is effective when the kill switch is hidden. Modern motorcycles come with a kill switch nevertheless older motorcycles are not. When you put the switch in disable mode any electricity will not reach the spark plug because the spark plug won’t ignite and the engine will not start.
Over 54,000+ motorcycles were stolen from America in the year 2022. You surely don’t want that, your motorcycle to be one of them. Always be alert and careful about your motorcycle and maintain maximum security.
