What to do after a motorcycle accident?

An accident can happen at any time. Every motorcycle rider must be prepared for the next step if an accident happens. Don’t panic, Keep yourself calm and follow the under-mentioned tips before the scenario gets worse.

Stay out of the crash area- As a biker, I know the first thought after a crash. Every motorcyclist treats their bike like a baby. I had an accident several times and every time after the crash at first I checked my motorcycle to see how much it was damaged instead of me. The majority of motorcyclists do the same. It’s a very bad idea to control your emotions and take yourself out of the crush area as soon as possible. Do not think about your motorcycle, leave your motorcycle as it is. Staying at the crushed spot and checking for motorcycle damage contains a higher risk of collision with other vehicles on the road. Leave your motorcycle behind and get into a safe zone.

Call for emergency service- This is the most important step to save lives. Don’t panic, stay calm and call for an emergency service or ask someone to call. If you are not able to call an emergency, call someone present at the accident spot and tell him what to do. Use your smartphone SOS future. Add the number of those who can help you in an emergency including the 911 emergency number in the available SOS feature on your smartphone. Also, some available mobile apps will help you to notify an emergency number you added by sharing your GPS location and personal medical information in the event of a motorcycle crash. Some popular apps are Biker Sos, Collision Call, Real Rider, etc.

Don’t put off your gears- Majority of the motorcycle riders make the same mistake in taking off their safety gears after an accident. Especially removing the helmet.  Even I made this type of mistake early. Try to move as little as possible after having an accident. Do not take off your helmet because, If the head, neck, and spine are already injured it may become worse after removing the helmet do not remove any gear from your body it could be worse. Be patient, be calm, and wait for the emergency service.

Collect evidence- Collecting evidence is one of the most important duties for Insurance for your motorcycle and legal purposes. After having an accident without any delay collect evidence of your property damage or ask someone to use your phone to take photos and videos of the entire crash spot including the vehicle that is responsible for the crash if it is possible. You can also check if there is any CCTV camera so that you collect the footage and use it as evidence.

Find a witness if possible- After an accident, people gather on the spot for help or observation of the scenario. Ask someone if they are willing to make a statement to the police. If you find someone like that and if he voluntarily wants to help you Note down his name and number so that you can contact him later on if needed.

Do not admit your fault- After having an accident, saying as simple a word as “I’m fine” may deprive you of getting compensation for your loss or damage. Try to talk as little as possible and be careful when you are talking with the police or someone else. Do not admit anything like that which may be used as evidence against you. If there ever comes a time when there is no choice but to plead guilty and if you have a minimum time so contract with your advocate and insurance company before admitting your fault contact with them. Submit or show to the police the evidence that you have collected after the crash.

Always be alert and control your motorcycle throttle and your emotions while riding. Follow the road laws always be alert and always try to run your motorcycle at medium speed because most of the motorcycle riders died because of overspeeding. If any accident happens follow the above-mentioned tips that might prove to be a lifesaver.
